I was working in an organization, where one fine day one of my colleagues’ enter the office wearing a bright red color dress with bright red slippers to match. She looked absolutely out of place. To be honest, I couldn’t stop myself from grinning. As the day progressed I realized that there were many more people like her who paid little heeds to what they were wearing to office.
This piece is for all those poorly dressed people who enter the corporate world or in matter of matter any organization and like to pass off their wrong sense of dressing as “ I am so cool… or this is my style and I can carry it off!”

First impressions count, so it makes sense to be well dressed.

We all know that first impressions do count. First impression includes a lot of things as in clothes and personal grooming, body language, facial expression, eye contact and so on. Thus all this go towards creating the ‘first’ impression.
Whether it is preparing for a job interview or working in company or any corporate house, it’s important to think about your appearance. How you look can actually help you in getting an important project, invitation to an important conference or even a friendly greeting from boss.

The Wardrobe – Appropriate look to suit the situation and occasion

Dressing for success does not mean donning the most fashionable outfits; it means choosing the appropriate look to suit the situation and occasion. Your dress should project the image you want the employer to see. Your appearance is judged as a reflection of your total personality, and also in relation to the type of work you will be doing. There are various standards of dress, each suitable for different kinds of jobs. Jeans, baseball caps, gym shoes, sandals, shorts, T-shirts, sleeveless tops and the ubiquitous backpacks are inappropriate.

While there are no hard-and-fast rules to guide you regarding the most appropriate way to dress, consider the following:
When dressing, especially for an interview, it is best to do so conservatively. You will not offend anyone or ruin your chances by looking formal, but an informal look can definitely strike you off the list.
If you wear loud colors or clothes that are the fad now, you will probably be remembered for your clothes and not for your name or qualifications.

A well-pressed, lightly starched white shirt with well-cut tailored trousers and an appropriate tie are all-time saviors.
For women, it gets a bit more complicated. They could opt for the Indian, Indo-western or Western look. But, whatever the look you choose, remember to tone down contrasting colors and huge floral prints and make sure you show as little skin as possible.

Accessorize right

Carry matching accessories: your belt, handbag, shoes all should complement what you are wearing.

Keep your nails clean, shapely and coated with a nail color that compliments your skin color.

Clothes must be neatly pressed and without frayed ends, stains, safety pins, dangling threads, and loose buttons.

Do body odour checks before you leave. In case, you sweat more than normal, ensure that you buy a good deodorant which has an anti-perspirant. Carry it with you to office!

Hair should be neatly combed and arranged. Take good care of the tresses. Always get a hair cut done that suits your face and allows you to be comfortable while carrying it.

Last but not the least, always remember that when you leave home and you are happy with the way you look, you face the world with confidence and will be unstoppable!
