This is the question faced by our generation these days. I know sometime back I used to think about it. Living in India, being a graduate is not enough to get you a good job. Post graduation is MUST. And everybody’s mind turns in the same direction, yes an MBA, what else? And why so? A) An MBA from a good institute will guarantee you a job with a MNC. B) A heavy wallet.

This seems like a perfect combination, so why not do an MBA? Here’s the catch, do an MBA from a good institute, then only will be it be worth all the effort. And by good institutes I don’t mean only IIM’s, there are several other good institutes too.
Anyways, the question that I would like to answer here is “what else can I do except for a MBA?” So here goes…

MASS COMMUNICATION

Mass communication is the academic study of any means by which information is given to the mass media, like newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, advertising etc.
Obviously this is not everybody’s cup of tea, but really a good option for people who have some creative side towards them. There are a lot of good institutes for Mass Communication in India like IIMC Delhi, Xavier Institute of Communication, Mumbai, MICA etc.

LAW

After your graduation there is also an option of LLB (3 years) and if you are still in school what better than 5 year LLB program. There are a lot of good institutes in India which offer 5 year LLB program like NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad etc. There is a combined entrance test for the top Law colleges in the country called CLAT. Entrance Tests are held for 3 year LLB program also. But the whole problem is that there are not many good institutes which offer 3 year LLB program and also the whole fact of studying for 3 more years after graduation may not appeal to everyone. Top institutes which offer 3 year LLB program are DU, Government Law College Mumbai etc. Totally worth if you want to appear for Indian Civil Services Examination.

INDIAN CIVIL SERVICES

The Indian Civil Services Examination, also known as the IAS examination is one of the most prestigious examinations of all India and offers the best positions to youngsters. ICS includes IAS, IPS, IFS (Forest and Foreign), IRS and lot more services. Getting through ICS is tough but not impossible. ICS exam is held in three phases, the prelim, main exam and the interview. Obviously one who clears all three gets through. Rest depends on your marks. If you have a high score you can get through IAS and so on. ICS exam is all about hard work, dedication and most importantly sticking to your schedule. There is a wide range of subjects offered in ICS exam which you can choose. Also GK plays a vital role in the exam and there is a language paper too.

Now this one is for all the adventure and thrill seekers. Indian Armed Forces includes the Army, Air Force and the Navy. This is definitely for you if you like arms, ammunition, big trucks, tanks, fighter planes etc. The armed forces are one the most respected out there. To get through the armed forces, there is an examination called CDS exam. CDS exam is given after graduation and after that you can choose if you want to go through to the army, air force or the navy. Or you can give NDA exam after your 12th and its 3 years in the NDA academy near PUNE and later you can choose if you want to go through to the army, air force or the navy.
