The Carrot Fish

Hailing from Chandigarh, the members of THE CARROT FISH have come a long way. The band doesn’t believe in restricting themselves to genres. Music has been the prime culprit in bringing “THE CARROT FISH” together, and they’ve loved it so far!!! Each member of the band acquires a unique music sense which when brought together ends up to be called as ORIGINAL. The band’s journey so far has been a fantasy and they hope that the fantasy world never end.

Sahil Sarin

Sahil Sarin started playing drums or more appropriately playing with the drums at the tender age of 5 years. It was about seven years of playing with the school bands and getting limited exposure to the ‘real’ music world that the local college bands recognized his talent and offered him a drum throne for their band, when he was only 12 years old.
He won the regional round of Campus Rock Idols with alternate rock band Stoned on Salt when he was only 15 years old. It would often turn out that the small wonder was underage for these college competitions but didn’t loose to make his mark.

It was playing with all the college bands from where his interest grew onto a point when he would literally wake up at 4o’clock in the morning to practice before attending his school when he was in the 9th standard. That is when he realized his passion for music. He would be inspired by greats like Virgil Donati, and would prefer to practice over playing football.
He had set his goals so high that he was neither satisfied with his playing nor the teachers that his home city Chandigarh had to offer. It was practicing along with cyber lessons and no other training for hour’s everyday that led to a frustration point where he realized that he needed a teacher.
Soon his search for a guru landed him in Gurgaon about 400 kms away, to the best teacher that the country has to offer. Yes, Manoj Mavely who studied at the world famous Berklee College of Music.

It was Sahil’s zeal and dedication to learn that made him travel all the way to Gurgaon about 7 hours journey to take lessons every weekend while attending school.
It has been about two years since Sahil has been learning drums. He passed his Trinity Grade 8 Rockschool exam with merit. Learning from the in depth knowledge of his guru and combined with his ideas he is progressing day by day setting an example for other musicians. His influences are Dave Weckl, Dave Dicenso, Marcus Baylor, Trilok Gurtu and Ustad Zakir Hussain.
His technical know how about his field makes him the only Drum Technician in the region.

His work has been highly appreciated by the likes of Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter Quartet, Virgil Donati, Wolfgang Haffner, Pierre Favre and more.
He has played sessions for Subhash Ghai’s Studio Audeus in Mumbai and is recognized for his session work all over.
With great dreams and high aspiration Sahil aims to study at Berklee College of Music on basis of scholarship in the future but most of all he wishes to learn music through out his life.

Joy

Joy started his musical journey in 5th standard with classical vocal training in school. He started participating in various school competitions with a good success rate.

Soon he decided to pick up guitar and learn more music. But the learning phase was not as easy because of lack of good professional guidance. He then took to e-learning by taking guitar tutorials.

Joy wants to explore more of music through learning different instruments and forms. It is his belief that there is still a lot to be made and contributed to world music that keeps pushing him to the limit.
Joy is also a professional radio jockey and has hosted various shows on AIR and Taal Radio (internet radio). His radio life taught him a lot about different genres of music.

He draws his influences from artists like:
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
Elvis Presley
Jet
The Zutons
K.T. Tunstall, etc.

Nitish

Nitish Malhotra had a relatively late musical exposure n grew up in almost an absence of musical surroundings or background. Up to the point of completing schooling, being a guitarist or a musician was nowhere near the thoughts of his mind. It was at the age of 16 that he came in contact with Sahib Singh, the fellow guitarist of the band, who influenced his musical tastes and thus exposed him to this particular genre of music.

Thereafter the will to learn and motivation from watching big artists and many acquaintances made him work in this direction and the same is what still keeps pushing him. Nitish plays an Epiphone G-310 with a Line 6 Floor pod processor.

Nitish has had fun working on Acoustic Projects as well which is another dimension to the same band.

The musical influences range from large proportions of:

Led Zeppelin
John Mayer
My Chemical Romance, etc.

Sahib

Sahib is the rhythm guitarist of the band. With great influence and inspiration from the psychedelic rock band, Pink Floyd, he picked up his instrument. He adds a different dimension to the bands’ sound by juggling around with his
playing styles. He has been playing guitar for the past two years now. Sahib also lends a unique writing style to the band through his lyrics.
He is fond of writing which comes naturally to him.

Plays an IBANEZ SA series guitar with a LINE 6 floor POD. Loves to do acoustic stuff and is in deep love with his J&D jumbo acoustic guitar.

With keen interest in sports he loves to work out in the gym whenever he gets time and has also represented the
state for junior national basketball championships.

Sahib also supports the vocal part through backing.
Sahib is deeply influenced by artists like:
Coldplay
The doors
Pink Floyd
Oasis, etc.

Pulkit Sharma

Pulkit is the vocalist of the band. Skillful he was by birth, he learnt his music in ludhiana. He has taken classes in
classical music for three years. He provides a sound musical base to the band. He thinks everything is connected
to music and wants to be perpetually confined in the walls of rhythm and beat.
