India has three major seasons: Summer, Winter, Monsoon.

Chandigarh has a sub-tropical continental monsoon climate characterized by a seasonal rhythm: hot summers, slightly cold winters, unreliable rainfall and great variation in temperature (0 °C to 44 °C). In winter, frost sometimes occurs during December and January. The average annual rainfall is recorded at 617 mm. The city also receives occasional winter rains from the west.

Average temperature:

· Summer: The temperature in summer may rise to a maximum of 44°C. Temperatures generally remain between 35° C to 42° C.

· Autumn: In autumn, the temperature may rise to a maximum of 36° C. Temperatures usually remain between 16° to 27° in autumn. The minimum temperature is around 13° C.

· Winter: Winters are quite cool and it can sometimes get quite chilly in Chandigarh. Average temperatures in winter (November to February) remain at (max) 7° C to 15 ° C and (min) 0° C to 5° C.

· Spring: The climate remains quite pleasant during the spring season. Temperatures vary between (max) 16° C to 25° C and (min) 9° C to 18° C.

The summer months (April to June) are hot in most parts of India. This is the season to visit the summer resorts of Shimla, Mussoorie, Nainital, Kufri and Kashmir Valley, Darjeeling, Shillong, Ootacamund, Kodaikanal, Pachmarhi and Mount Abu.

The winter months (November to March) are pleasant throughout India with bright sunny days. Winter is more severe in the northern plains and in the foot-hills of Himalayas, while the Southern, Eastern and Western zones of India, remain pleasantly cool.

The monsoon breaks at the beginning of the June on the south-west coast of
India and gradually breaks over all parts of the country, except south eastern areas. These areas receive most of their rain fall between mid-October and end-December.

Chandigarh’s Climate is unpredictable at times, as on one side it might be raining and on the other side of the road the sun is shinning brightly :)
