An Insight into our holy scriptures
In the last three years of my study in the field of comparative religion, I came across people of different faiths, beliefs and ideologies.
I have had discussions with many people and I have found that most of us don’t show the kind of interest in the matters of faith and spirituality, as we normally do in things like cricket, machines, the latest sports car, or even the saas-bahu daily soaps!
I believe that despite of the fact that it is unbelievable to be fanatical about religious matters; there must be some emphasis on the understanding of ‘God’. Here might be some people who are of the opinion that these things must not be even preached or even suggested. Well, I feel that peace and universal brotherhood cannot be achieved completely, if there isn’t correct understanding of God. Following arguments and the excerpts from various religious scriptures of the world puts forth my view more explicitly.
There are many different ways in which people perceive God. The most common among them are:
· A supreme Being, able to do all things
· A feeling, someone to be felt, and not just worshiped
· A fear, instilled in the minds of man due to certain unpleasant events
· A power or ‘energy’, for example some people believe that God is actually ‘the Center of the Universe’ which provides energy to everything and is the origin of every imaginable thing
· Again there are many who don’t believe in the existence of God and are known as atheists
Now one thing is for sure, all the above perceptions can’t be correct. If someone really wants to know about God, how different faiths describe the nature of God and the relation between God and human kind, the best possible ways would be:
· To critically analyze and understand the religious scriptures of various religions of the world
· To apply the concepts of ‘established’ science and logic to spirituality and matters of faith and religion
A study of all major religions would show that they export mankind to follow that which is good and eschew that which is evil. Most people believe that all religions ultimately lead to one goal, only the paths towards the goal are different. All faiths are basically strictly monotheistic and we can safely say that all faiths provide the same path to attain proximity to God.
The following verses from different religious scriptures throw some light on the topic:
“Ekam evaditiyam”
“He is one only, without second”
-Chandogya Upanishad
“Macid anyad in sansata na rishanyata”
“O friends, do not worship anybody but Him, the divine one, praise Him alone”
-Rig Veda
“There exsists but one God, who is called the True Creator, free from fear and hate, immortal, not begotten, self existant, great and compassionate”
– Guru Granth Sahib

God is nothing but a psychological entity ..
rest is all bull shit .
Every human being as an individual is incomplete , he needs that extra something to have that sense of security that he always longs for , the idea of a supreme being fills that .
God doesnt exist and religion is nothing but mumbo jumbo bullshit created by man .
kabir Das , said in a Doha that , i travelled everywhere in the search of god but did not find him but when i looked inside myself , i found him ” . when he said looked inside himself , he dint meant his heart , he meant the head , the mind , god exist in our minds because that is where WE created him .
I partially agree with Deepididoe, in that God is a concept created by human beings to create a false sense of security, or maybe a scapegoat to ease their burdens???
But then, I also do not negate the existence of some kind of energy that functions beyond what we can consciously be aware of. Is any more of an explanation really necessary??
Lastly, I believe, application of the concepts of ‘established’ science and logic to religion, or their analysis wouldn’t really solve your purpose, seeing as how the very definition of “FAITH” is a “Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence”.
Makes you ponder, innit?
